Tax Overview
As a print-on-demand seller using Completeful, you're responsible for understanding and complying with tax obligations in your jurisdiction. This guide covers common tax-related topics and how to access your tax documents.

Sales Tax (US)
Sales tax requirements vary by state and your business structure:
Your Responsibility as a Seller
When you sell through your own store (Shopify, WooCommerce, etc.), you're responsible for:
- • Collecting sales tax from your customers
- • Remitting collected taxes to appropriate authorities
- • Maintaining records for tax reporting
Completeful's Role
We charge you the production cost and shipping. Sales tax on the final retail transaction is between you and your customer. We provide invoices for your purchases from us, which may be tax-deductible as business expenses.
VAT (European Union & UK)
Value Added Tax (VAT) applies to businesses operating in the EU and UK:
VAT Registration
If your annual revenue exceeds the VAT threshold in your country, you must register for VAT. Thresholds vary by country (e.g., £85,000 in the UK, €35,000 in Ireland).
Once registered, you'll need to charge VAT to your EU/UK customers and file regular VAT returns.
Accessing Your Tax Documents
Completeful provides various tax documents for your business records:
Monthly Invoices
Access all your monthly invoices showing your purchases from Completeful:
- Log in to your dashboard
- Go to Settings → Billing → Invoices
- Select the date range or specific month
- Click "Download PDF" or "Download CSV"
Annual Tax Summaries
At the end of each calendar year, we provide an annual summary of all your transactions. This document helps with tax filing and includes:
- • Total amount spent on production
- • Total shipping costs
- • Number of orders fulfilled
- • Month-by-month breakdown
1099-K Forms (US Sellers)
If you're a US-based seller and meet certain thresholds, you may receive a 1099-K form from your payment processor (not from Completeful):
Who Receives 1099-K?
Payment processors (Shopify Payments, PayPal, etc.) issue 1099-K forms if you meet:
- • $600+ in annual gross payments (as of 2023)
- • Previously: $20,000+ and 200+ transactions
This form reports your gross sales. You can deduct your Completeful production costs as business expenses.
Business Expense Deductions
Your Completeful production costs are typically tax-deductible business expenses. Keep these records:
- Monthly invoices from Completeful
- Annual tax summaries
- Payment receipts and bank statements
- Records of any bulk order discounts received
Tax Tip:
Organize your Completeful invoices by quarter or year to make tax filing easier. Most accounting software can import CSV files directly.
